Forming the most western part of the alpine mountain range, the South
Dauphiné offers a mosaic of natural structures of remarkable variety. With an easy access to its
mountains, picturesque houses, a reputation for its healthy climate, beautiful lakes
and gastronomy, this area offers authentic and unspoilt landscapes and all the simple
pleasures of these medium-high mountains.
The Dauphiné Mountains have much more to offer than the better-known
mountain ranges. One must add the luminous Trièves plateau, where Giono enjoyed resting,
the Matheysine and its splendid Lac de Laffrey and the Beaumont crowned by the
Marian sanctuary of La Salette.

Lac de Laffrey
Lac du Monteynard
Located 630
m above sea level and stretching over 10 km, the Monteynard Lake forms a
natural separation between the Trieves and Matheysine valleys. Only 45 minutes
from Grenoble, this lake, which can be seen from the famous train of La Mure, offers
astonishing aspects. The turquoise blue water, stunning canyons and some very steep
banks, make a mysterious setting that has become a paradise for windsurfers,
fishermen but also people who love contemplating beautiful sceneries during
short cruises organized on the bateau de la Mira.
